Very subtle but I certainly sense that the Premier sound factory sounds natural throughout the range. Perhaps the human ear can discern that it isn't a recording but one that has been pitch shifted.

I cannot say with any authority that I can hear it but I can certainly sense that it is not as natural as some of my live piano recordings. If that is true well then as mentioned, they missed a trick. I also read that they sampled every other key. This is a very, very good offering but could have been perfect for a few more details. The Ravenscroft to me is extraordinary in every department for example. Would actually have been happy with a close mic perspective and a distant one with more velocity layers TBH but it is a good sampling. Fit right in on a song that called for it.Īll in all 4 out of 5 for me. In my case, I am a vocalist and a real sounding piano is indespensible - love it in spite of it's quircks. Depends on how important piano is to you. Dense orchestral compositions make this library top notch. Is it worth what they are charging? Depends on your genre - and if you are heavily invested in Spitfire stuff, this will blend right in. And the reverb of Air Lyndhurst studios makes this a no brainer. Real air flattens dynamics somewhat so the limited velocity levels is less noticeable. Basically for me the library shines with the more distant mics. Takes eq well though boosting the high end can promote the hiss somewhat. Just the character of that piano with those mics. Perhaps in this case it was not the same. I have the percussion library and they recorded at high resolution and downsamplled. The high end not as silky giving it a more strident brightish presentation. Another very useful tool but perhaps the limited velocity layers count against it.

But I have hundreds of midi performances over the years that I can use for reference with some tweaking.Ĭonclusion. I also do not play keys so cannot comment on its playability. Classical and jazz musos may consider other deeper samplings to expose the instrument in a solo, bare performance. So yeah buried in the mix it shouldn't be an issue I guess but as a dynamic solo instrument - not sure. Understandable as they raised the gain I suspect. If you have a high res mix at 96 khz for example the subtle hiss does build up when playing a lot of voices - especially the soft patches. The soft samples can also be a touch noisy if compared to pristine samples like the Bluthner from Dan Dean or Ivory. I can hear some of the objections such as stereo shifting in the tails of samples but it doesn't really bother me. I have a lot of the usual suspects but for intimate stuff IMHO it's hard to get past Premier sound factory's Steinway offering. A pristine piano recorded in that space!!!įound it was generally lower in volume than my other sample libraries overall. So for the more ambient recordings hard to match - seriously - that's the price of entry right there. But you gotta love the reverb of Air studios. So.I think I prefer a few others for the intimate close microphone perspectives honestly. Please understand that I am no expert and these are the perspectives of an unqualified so and so who is still on a quest to use a no holds barred piano on his productions. Had a play around with this piano rather quickly - short first impressions - may have to live with it a bit longer to give a more informed conclusion.
